About Us
Soulroots is a charitable trust working with young people in S17, comprised of 6 local churches: Dore Methodist; Christchurch, Dore; Totley All Saints; Totley Brook URC; St John's Abbeydale and Totley Rise Methodist Church. Led by youthworker Andy Stuart and Youthwork Student Eleanor who is studying at St Johns, Nottingham.
Soulroots' aim is to be a more radical community that encourages each other - and all young people in S17 - to walk with God.
Soulroots is about:
(i) taking the message of Christ to young people in Sheffield 17 and aiming to help young people in Sheffield 17 feel comfortable openly declaring their faith
(ii) helping young Christians at whatever stage they are, in the development of their faith, to grow in faith and have the confidence to maintain their commitment to Christianity
(iii) helping the churches of Sheffield 17 develop in ways which meet the spiritual needs of young Christians
(iv) working across the generations in Sheffield 17 and learning from each other
We are about being a community of young people that brings the best out of young people in S17, helps them to realise their potential and involve them in the wider community. We want all these individuals to to hear about the Christian faith and have an opportunity to respond to it, but we are also committed to loving and supporting them regardless.
Key bibles passages that reflect our ethos:
Isaiah 61
1The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
2to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
3and provide for those who grieve in Zion —
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the LORD
for the display of his splendor.
Proverbs 12:12 "'What the wicked construct finally falls into ruin, while the roots of the righteous give life, and more life.'
Things we are currently in need of:
- a good quality dining table (to be our conference table in the new office) and chairs
- two good condition sofas (to replace the ones in the office currently)
- large (preferably purpose built) cupboards to house and keep secure the PA system
- a large bubble lamp for the prayer room
The website (and our facebook page) is a continuation of the community, online, as we feel it is equally important to be a positive presence in the young people's virtual reality, and provide safe environments there too.
